UI Design for Mobile Application

Study project

This project was part of Digital Marketing and Sales study course. The goal was to come up with new ideas of how to improve the web store of Kierrätyskeskus and to increase customer engagement.

This was a group assignment with five students. Since the client’s web store operated only in web, we chose to design a mobile application where customers could sell their own used items.

The project was carried out within a one-week design sprint. We divided the tasks equally to work as efficiently as possible. We kept brief meetings every morning and at the end of the day to catch up and check that the project was running as planned. I was responsible for creating UI mockups for the mobile application with another student. Here I will present only the mobile application and the UI mockups instead of the whole concept idea.

As circular economy was the key point of client’s business, we wanted to make it visible on the app and included some features with the theme. The app would not only be a marketplace for customers but also a channel for donating and recycling used items. We designed a separate section for donation which included easy access to follow the collecting truck and to order pick-up service from Kierrätyskeskus. This way a user would not only be able to sell and buy but also to recycle and donate items easily via the app.

On profile page, we added personal data of a user which demonstrates how they have saved natural resources when selling or buying used items. Every time a user sells, buys or donates items, the app would demonstrate it by growing a graphical tree on profile page.

We created the mockups with Figma and followed the brand’s style by choosing their brand colors, logo and used their pictures and graphics on the mockups.

We wanted to create a clear and user-friendly UI design that would be easy and smooth to use.

At the final phase of the project, we held a pitch for the client where we presented our service concept and the mockups. I was responsible for presenting the UI mockups and the main features of the app.

The client was happy with the outcome, and we gained the highest grade 5/5 of our work.
